How do I use HP Designjet System Maintenance?

To start the HP Designjet System Maintenance application...

1. Launch the printer driver for your . The procedure to launch the printer driver depends on the operating system of your computer.
• Windows 2000 and Windows XP:
  On your computer, click the Start button in the Windows task-bar. Select Settings and then Printers.
  Right-click the icon that refers to your and select Printing Preferences.
• Windows NT 4.0:
  On your computer, select the Print option of any regular software application for Windows, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel or Microsoft WordPad (the option Print is usually located in the File menu).
  The Print dialog will appear on your screen. Make sure that your is selected in the Name field of the Print dialog.

• Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME:
  On your computer, click the Start button in the Windows task-bar. Select Settings and then Printers.

3. Click the Maintenance button. When you click it, your computer will launch your Internet browser and start HP Designjet System Maintenance.
   If the Maintenance button is dimmed or does not appear, it means that HP Designjet System Maintenance is not installed on your computer. This is normal if your printer is managed by a network printer server (if your appears in your Printers list as, for example, hp100 on YOUR_PRINTER_SERVER). HP Designjet System Maintenance is normally installed on your printer server and not on your computer. But if the printer is managed by your computer and the Maintenance button is dimmed or hidden, you must install HP Designjet System Maintenance. Insert your HP Designjet Software Setup CD and follow the instructions in the CD booklet.
4. If you have an Internet connection, select the option hp instant support on the left-side menu bar of HP Designjet System Maintenance. Your computer will collect information from your printer about status and error conditions and send it to HP web servers, which will display information about how to solve the problems detected. If hp instant support does not help you to solve your problem, select the Troubleshoot option to find other troubleshooting processes on the web.
5. If you have not got a connection to the Internet, two options are available to you: Align printheads and Clean printheads.
   These can both be used, separately or in conjunction, to improve the quality of your images.
• If you select Clean printheads, the nozzles of your printheads are cleaned.
• If you select Align printheads, an A4- or Letter-size page is printed and scanned.
