How do I connect using an HP Jetdirect print server?

To connect to an HP Jetdirect print server...

io port

  • Physically connect the cable between your printer and the computer system.
  • Refer to the "HP Jetdirect Print Servers Quick Start Guide" for complete instructions on installing and configuring the HP Jetdirect print server. It describes all the connectivity options for your Operating System. HP strongly recommends using the IP protocol in all cases.

Important: During the configuration of the port for your printer, the HP Jetdirect install network printer wizard will prompt you to install the printer driver. Even if you have already installed the HP Designjet software, you should continue at this stage without cancelling the driver installation. Failure to do this may result in the wrong IP address being used by the software, and an inability to print anything. (See The Problem Is...I have installed a Jetdirect card but the printer will not print anything.)

  • Depending on your configuration choices in the previous step, get the print server's IP address or AppleTalk name by printing the configuration page. For an external Jetdirect print server, refer to the documentation that comes with the server.
  • To print the configuration page for an internal Jetdirect print server, you need to do the following:
    • Press and hold down the Power key (the bottom key on the front panel).
    • Press the OK key (the upper right key on the front panel) four times while the Power key is pressed.
    • Release the Power key. The printer will print an information sheet that gives information about the network server.
  • Then install the HP Designjet software.
